What is ReadyDriver?

ReadyDriver is a self-paced online course that covers everything you’ll need to know about driving and maintaining a commercial vehicle in order to get your commercial learner's permit. The course includes learning modules and quizzes to gauge your progress and understanding as you go.

Who is ReadyDriver for?

ReadyDriver is designed for drivers seeking a Class A CDL for the first time who need to complete entry-level driver training to comply with new federal regulations.

What can I do with a Class A CDL?

The Class A CDL is the most versatile type of commercial driver's license. If you’re looking to have a career on the road driving a big rig, this is the CDL for you. Class A CDL-holders can drive tractor-trailers (semis or 18-wheelers), flatbeds and other heavy-duty towing vehicles, as well as smaller vehicles like delivery trucks or utility vehicles. Jobs that require Class A CDLs also tend to have higher earning potential.

What do I need to know about the changes to federal requirements for new truck drivers?

Effective February 2022, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires all new commercial truck drivers to complete entry-level driver training (ELDT), consisting of theory and behind-the-wheel skills components, before being permitted to take the required skills or knowledge test. This training can only be administered by authorized providers, which can be found in the Training Provider Registry.

Does ReadyDriver meet Entry-Level Driver Training requirements?

ReadyDriver satisfies the theory requirement for entry-level driver training (ELDT). Enrollees who complete the course will need to enroll in a skills course at a driving school to satisfy the behind-the-wheel requirement for ELDT.

How much does ReadyDriver cost?

ReadyDriver’s cost for individual enrollees is $499. Completing the ReadyDriver program prior to enrolling in a skills-only, behind-the-wheel driving course is one of the most budget-friendly ways to earn your CDL. Interested in ReadyDriver training for your corporate fleet? Contact us.

How can I access the ReadyDriver course?

ReadyDriver is hosted online within the Pyvot Explore learning portal, which can be accessed by clicking “Enroll Now” in the top right corner of this website. First-time users will need to create an account, add the course to their cart and pay course fees to gain access to the course. ReadyDriver can be accessed anytime, anywhere, on any device.

How long does it take to complete the ReadyDriver course?

ReadyDriver is self-paced so completion time will vary. On average, it will take approximately 20-30 hours to complete.

How long do I have to complete the ReadyDriver course once I enroll?

ReadyDriver is 100% self-paced, meaning you can finish the course as quickly or slowly as you’d like. There is no deadline or expiration date for the course content. Lessons and quizzes can also be repeated if you’d like to spend more time on a given subject.

I’ve successfully completed the ReadyDriver course. What do I need to do next?

Congrats! ReadyDriver will automatically inform your state’s licensing agency that you’ve completed the theory component of your entry-level driver training. At this point, you’ll need to 1) take your state’s knowledge test to earn your commercial learner’s permit and 2) enroll in a skills course at a driving school for your hands-on, behind-the-wheel training. You can search the Training Provider Registry for approved driving schools. You will also need to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam. These exams are valid for up to 24 months.
